Advent Hill Zone - ACT 8!

Welcome back to another week of moderately-interesting thrills, courtesy of the Advent Hill Zone! If you're just joining us eight days in, we've been opening up the Sonic the Hedgehog Jakks Pacific Advent Calendar one day at a time, all in honor of the Christmas season!

Box 8, our most horizontal one yet!

Looks like Buzz Bomber just got a buddy in the form of fellow Sonic 1 Badnik, Crabmeat!

Star Post #1: General Info

Native to the both the Green Hill and Spring Yard Zones, Crabmeat are Badniks that made their debut in the original Sonic the Hedgehog. Their attack pattern consisted of scuttling back and forth before charging up twin energy balls that they eventually fired diagonally from their two massive pincers. However, this charge period is easily exploitable, giving the player a perfect opportunity to bop them before they can get off one shot. (As expected of such a simple Badnik, a single bounce on the head spells doom for them.) Following their debut, Crabmeat have gone on to appear in additional games (though, oddly, not as many as the Buzz Bombers) as well as score appearances in animation and comics. (A Crabmeat even served as Robotnik's very first lackey in the earliest issues of the Archie comic!) They're also called "Ganigani" in Japanese, literally meaning "Crabcrab," which is just delightful.

Star Post #2: Trivia

Though Sonic X largely relied on a rogues' gallery of original robots rather than pulling Badniks from the games, one did manage to sneak their way in...sorta. In the 16th episode of the series, called "Depths of Danger" in English, Sonic runs afoul of a mischievous Crab while hunting for a Chaos Emerald underwater. Said Crab resembles Crabmeat, and, true to form, he causes trouble for the Blue Blur. If you'd be more interested in a Sonic X story featuring real deal robot Crabmeat, you can also check out Issue #10 of the Archie Comics tie-in series, wherein Sonic and friends get trapped in a virtual world modeled after the original Sonic the Hedgehog game. (A couple Crabmeat pop up in the Spring Yard Zone.)

Goal Plate: Closing Thoughts

Can't get much more classic than ol' Crabmeat! Now the villains outnumber the heroes!

This day's in the can, but be back here all the earlier tomorrow for another trip to the Advent Hill Zone!
