Advent Hill Zone - ACT 13!

Good morning from the Advent Hill Zone! We've been making some good progress through our Jakks Pacific Sonic Advent Calendar so far, but there are still plenty more boxes to crack open!

Day 13! Let's see if what's in this box can beat that particular number's misfortune stigma.

Ray got a buddy! It's Mighty the Armadillo!

Star Post #1: General Info

Like Ray, Mighty the Armadillo made his debut in the SegaSonic the Hedgehog Arcade game, went into obscurity, and made a recent comeback as part of Sonic Mania's DLC. Unlike his Squirrel friend, however, he was actually featured as a playable character in the Sega 32X game, Knuckles Chaotix, in-between those appearances, teaming up with Knuckles, Espio, Charmy, and Vector to squash another of Eggman’s schemes. He possesses great strength and a hard, durable shell that provides him extra protection from enemies and even hazards such as spikes. Despite his great power, though, Mighty would actually prefer not to fight if given the choice. However, his pacifistic nature never gets in the way of doing good or protecting his friends, especially his best bud Ray. Much like Sonic, he's also a big fan of nature and travel. Being in a pretty similar boat to Ray save for his Chaotix appearance, Mighty has only featured in Sonic Mania Adventures as far as cartoons go, but has made appearances in comics published by Archie (where he had a sister,) Fleetway (where he had a father,) and IDW.

Star Post #2: Trivia

Mighty's role in Knuckles Chaotix definitely stands out next to Ray's comparative complete hibernation following SegaSonic, but did you know that there might actually be a special reason he was given said role? Y'see Knuckles Chaotix was originally prototyped as a game called "Sonic Crackers," where Sonic and Tails would complete stages as a team using a bungee-like Ring mechanic. While the general mechanic stuck for Chaotix, the game was rebranded into a starring role for Knuckles instead of just another Sonic title. Knux and the majority of his new friends received brand new sprites when the switch happened, but comparing Mighty's in the final game to Sonic's in Crackers will reveal quite a startling resemblance. This led to the belief that Sonic may have been scrapped fairly late in the game's development and had all his previously completed spritework modified into what Mighty ended up using. Guess they were afraid of the Blue Blur upstaging Rad Red in his first solo outing?

Goal Plate: Closing Thoughts

Great to have Mighty to go with Ray. Though, I'm not exactly sure how he's supposed to stand. His legs are in very odd positions.

That's another one down, so join us tomorrow as we plunge deeper into the unknown of the Advent Hill Zone!
