Hauls: OMGcon 2024 and a 30-Year Shark Attack

August is tomorrow, and I've still got a few hauls to share before the next big post. So let's get down to business and clear those out, shall we?

Power Rangers Lightning Collection Omega Rangers Set (Hasbro Pulse)

Always interested in collecting merch for comic-exclusive characters and forms from my favorite TV and game franchises. However, when the Omega Rangers set was initially released, I passed on it. 100 bucks seemed pretty steep for a four-pack of figures that were largely identical in design besides paint and accessories. (There are only two unique body and head molds in this set: a male one and a female one.) However, when Hasbro Pulse marked it down to less than $50 including shipping, I KNEW that I couldn't pass it up.

They're awesome figures, too! No QC problems and they're perfect plastic representations of the initial Omega Rangers team from the Boom comics. VERY happy with them, especially considering the deal I got them for.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2012 Annual Deluxe Edition (Walmart)
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2014 Annual Deluxe Edition (Amazon)

Didn't have physical copies of these particular stories from early on in IDW TMNT's run, so decided to shop around to see if I could find a good enough deal on the fancy hardcover deluxe editions. (Which were originally 40 bucks a piece. For ONE story. Yeah, that's why I waited to grab them.) Luckily, I was able to score BOTH used for less than the original price for ONE. Now I have everything from IDW TMNT pre-issue 100 in physical form minus the first Usagi crossover and the story from the 30th Anniversary Special! Not too shabby.

Guardians of the Galaxy Blu-ray 3D Combo Pack (Disney Movie Insiders)

Been saving up for this one for a while! I've had the second Guardians on Blu-ray since 2017, but have oddly never owned the first. Decided to change that through DMI, but it took a bit of waiting. Y'see, I wanted a digital copy of the movie as well, and the only Blu-ray that DMI offered that included one was 2000 points. (That's why it's the fancy-pants Blu-ray 3D version despite the fact that I don't own a 3D TV.) After a loooooong point grind that was set back by an impulse redemption here and there, I FINALLY got enough points and redeemed it. Now Guardians V2 won't look as awkward on the shelf!

Space Junk Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Canvas Backpack

My parents found this for me while thrifting! I'd never seen it before, but it's super cool and covered with unique artwork based on the 2012 TMNT show! Perfect as a both a travel bag AND a place to keep my TMNT pins!

OMGcon 2024 Swag

Keroro Version 1.5 + Flying Board Model Kit
Giroro Model Kit
Deep Ocean King Kululu and Kuluarm Model Kit
Mega Man Battle Network SMP Makes Pose Kit 01 - MegaMan
Yu-Gi-Oh! ARC-V Volume 2
Trevenant Sticker

OMGcon arrived once again and I spent another fun weekend hanging out and watching Digimon with my sister. As for my purchases during said weekend, besides the lone Yu-Gi-Oh! ARC-V manga volume and the Trevenant sticker my sister got free with some candy, I mostly scored a bunch of model kits. Here's a rundown of my experiences with them:

The MegaMan kit was a NIGHTMARE to build. SO many tiny pieces, SO much finger injury, and to top it all off, I accidentally attached one piece to the wrong side of another, resulting in me accidentally breaking the first while trying to separate the two. Luckily for me, everything still came together fine enough (despite MegaMan's left leg not being secured to him properly due to the missing piece), so I could still display him on one of my shelves. Still, I don't think I'll be picking up any more of these particular kits.

The Keroro kits, however, came together MUCH more easily. The only issues I had were the weird design of Giroro's eye stickers causing them to get all crumpled up when I applied them, and accidentally securing Keroro's body before attaching his head peg, resulting in me spending like an hour trying to pull the body back apart. Fortunately for me, I was eventually successful (thanks in no small part to some assistance from some nail clippers) and didn't damage anything, unlike with MegaMan. No problems with Kululu, though. He was a fun one from start to finish.

$20 Nintendo eShop Card (Target)
Two Digimon Card Game BT16 Beginning Observer Packs (Target)

Wrapping up OMGcon weekend, I had a bit of cash left over from my con funds, so I decided to use it to score an eShop card at Target (to put towards the new TMNT: Splintered Fate game) as well as a couple packs of Digimon cards. (Didn't get the greatest pulls, though, and that particular booster set didn't turn out to have much that interested me, so I kinda wish that I had gotten more eShop cash instead.)

Funko POP! Animation Baby (Funko Shop)
Funko POP! Television Slash with Pre-Mutated Slash (Amazon)

I don't buy POP! vinyls that often, but Funko deciding to make both my favorite Dragon Ball villain AND my favorite TMNT character in the same year kinda forced my hand. I especially love that they made pre-Vegeta Baby, as I feel that particular form is underrepresented in terms of merchandise. Also gotta love how Slash's bonus "pre-mutated" figure is obviously based on his 1987 cartoon design rather than his superior toy one that the main figure is. Hey, as long as the toy design is the main event, I don't mind a doofy little bonus.

Street Sharks 30th Anniversary Ripster Figure (Big Bad Toy Store)
Street Sharks 30th Anniversary Jab Figure (Big Bad Toy Store)
Street Sharks 30th Anniversary Slash Figure (Big Bad Toy Store)

OHHHHHHHHH MYYYYYYYYYY GODDDDDDDDDDDDDDDD these are AMAZING! When Mattel announced that we were getting a new line of Street Sharks figures for the 30th Anniversary that faithfully recreated the designs of the vintage figures, yet also updated their articulation to modern levels, I couldn't freaking believe it. BETTER versions of the always-expensive vintage Street Sharks for only 25 bucks a pop?! It was too good to be true! Needless to say, I pre-ordered the first wave ASAP and got them in recently. They DO NOT disappoint. The opening jaws? The action features? The rubbery shark skin? All there. They're EXACTLY like my old collection from back in the day, only they can pose around WAY more easily. They're SO fun to mess around with (especially Slash, who I've never actually owned before) and they even still come in little cages with that great vintage artwork and cut-out bios on the back! (Which I, of course, cut out, because I'm a dork.) I cannot BELIEVE that these really exist and I am IN for all future waves. (Which, judging by these photos from SDCC, I think I'm gonna need a bigger shelf for. MOBY LICK AND KILLAMARIIIIIIII!!!!)

Ness amiibo (Gamestop)

Ness was the only fighter from the Smash 64 roster that I didn't have in amiibo form, so I immediately jumped on this reissue that Gamestop recently put out. Now the original 12 that started it all have finally assembled on my shelf!

Ralph Breaks the Internet Hallmark Keepsake Ornament (eBay)

Being the Wreck-It Ralph nut that I am, I, of course, had my eye on this ornament back when it originally released in 2018. However, I didn't pull the trigger on it back then, causing its aftermarket price to eventually balloon up to 60 FREAKING DOLLARS! I did NOT want to pay that much for a tree decoration, so I recently shopped around and found it on eBay for half that price minus the box. It's in great condition, too, so it was well worth it. Looking forward to adding some Ralph goodness to my little tree this holiday.

Marvel Legends Superior Spider-Man Figure (Amazon)

I picked up the original Superior Spider-Man Marvel Legends figure back in 2017, but I quickly realized that it was severely lacking. It was missing his tech gauntlets and mechanical spider legs that he used pretty frequently in the comics and was overall just kind of...off. As it turns out, that particular figure was based on concept art for the character rather than the actual comic stories, meaning that fans of that time that Otto Octavius took a stab at heroics would go on wanting for a definitive figure. That all changed this year.

This new figure is MUCH improved. He has his gauntlets, spider legs, and even an interchangeable backpack piece so you could display him with OR without said extra limbs. The only thing that I would add would be a swivel for his gauntlets so he could position them in front of him in dramatic fashion, but he's still a great addition to my Marvel/Spider shelf. (Though, I had to do a bit of repositioning to find a spot for him. With those legs attached, he's just ASKING to knock down other figures. Classic Doc Ock, I guess.)

Funko POP! Animation Super Baby 2 (Entertainment Earth)

Finishing things off, we have another of Baby's forms that got the POP! treatment recently. Now all I need is a jumbo POP! of the big gold monkey! C'mon, Funko, complete the Baby trifecta!

That's everything I picked up in the past couple months! See you in a couple days for the annual Birthday haul post!

32nd Birthday Haul

Another August 2nd means another Birthday post! Much like last year, I already did my celebrating this past weekend (since Wednesday is generally an inconvenient day for get-togethers), so I'm just taking it easy today. Still got some sweet Birthday swag to share, though, so let's get cracking!

Sonic Origins Plus (Switch)
Metroid Prime Remastered
Mega Man Battle Network Legacy Collection (Switch)
Pac-Man World Re-Pac (Switch)
Psychonauts 2 (PS4)
The Super Mario Bros. Movie (4K Combo)

This year's game selection is largely ports and enhanced remakes. These include both games that I've played before as well as ones that I've never actually experienced. (Looking forward to finally checking out MegaMan.EXE's RPG adventures and Pac-Man's first foray into 3D platforming!) Rounding things out are a sequel to a fan-favorite game that I completed recently (and loved) and Mario's big (American) animated movie debut! Peaches Peaches Peaches. (Would you believe that TWO of the items listed above involve Jack Black?)

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The IDW Collection Volume 14
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The IDW Collection Volume 15
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Saturday Morning Adventures Volume 1

Moving on to my usual batch of reading material, with a hot new movie hitting today (ON MY FREAKING BIRTHDAY), I, of course, had to give some love to my favorite Turtles. The two hardcovers start off Sophie Campbell's run on the main book (as well as introduce Tokka and Rahzar, which I'm jazzed about) while Erik Burnham's Saturday Morning Adventures series kicks things back to the universe of the 1987 cartoon. With these and Mutant Mayhem, I'll have three different flavors of TMNT to enjoy this month!

Pokémon Adventures XY Volume 3
Pokémon Adventures XY Volume 4
Pokémon Adventures XY Volume 5
Spider-Man: Fake Red

Manga time! Pokémon Adventures brings more Kalos (MEGA) fun while the Spider-Man: Fake Red series shows what would happen if some regular Joe got ahold of one of Spidey's suits while the real deal is MIA. The latter will make a fun little appetizer before Pete's next big video game adventure. (Especially since Venom is also in Fake Red.)

The Simpsons Treehouse of Horror Ominous Omnibus Volume 2: Deadtime Stories for Boos & Ghouls

More Springfield spookiness! Since I pretty much go into full-on Halloween anticipation mode after my Birthday, this second Treehouse of Horror Omnibus will be the perfect way to kick things off! Looking forward to diving into another 400 pages of horror-adjacent humor! (Including the FIRST time that the Simpsons parodied Death Note!)

Diddy Kong Racing Japanese Version
Yoshi's Story Japanese Version
Paper Mario (Mario Story) Japanese Version

My Dad surprised me with these! While Paper Mario is just the cartridge, DKR and Yoshi's Story include the boxes, manuals, and everything in decent condition, so they should make killer display pieces for my retro game collection! (Check out those awesome alternate covers compared to the US versions, too!)

Power Rangers Birthday Card w/$50 Amazon Gift Card
Marvel Comics Three-Pack (Murderworld: Moon Knight #1, Captain America: Symbol of Truth #2, and Spider-Men: Double Trouble #1)

My Sis and her family got me a Power Rangers Birthday Card (a SUPER MEGAFORCE one at that, meaning it had to have been backstock from almost a decade ago) that held Amazon cash within, which I quickly used to pre-order something I'll talk about in the next post as well as to add to my Playstation Store wallet. (Used said added cash to grab the Final Fantasy VII Remake Yuffie DLC. Gotta get ready for Rebirth!) Not wanting to just get me a gift card, though, they also threw in a three-pack of Marvel comics in a swank TMNT gift bag. While two of the comics in the pack were hidden from view in a blind bag sort of way, I lucked out in that they featured Spider-Man and Deadpool, two of my favorite Marvel characters. Those particular two comics also came with free digital copies, which is a great bonus.

Wrapping things up, my Grandma gave me fifty bucks that I used to pre-order SOMETHING ELSE that I'll detail in the next post.

That officially rolls credits on my 32nd Birthday! See you guys this Fall for my next post!

29th Birthday Haul

Birthday number 29 is in the can. Hard to believe that 30's only a year away. Something tells me it won't feel much different, though. Had a fun time yesterday with friends, family, pizza, and ice cream cake. (All the classic makings for exhaustion and an overly full belly.) Anyway, let's share some Birthday loot!

Paper Mario: The Origami King
Pokemon Mystery Dungeon Rescue Team DX
Mega Man Zero/ZX Legacy Collection (Switch)
SpongeBob SquarePants: Battle for Bikini Bottom Rehydrated (Switch)
A Hat in Time (Switch)

Another Birthday, another crop of games! This year we've kind of got a theme going with "old games on new systems and 3D platformers." Y'know, aside from Origami King.

I've already 100%'d it, BTW. Got it early on its actual release date and put SOOOO much time into it. It's so fun. I wasn't that great at a lot of the more complex ring puzzles even by game's end because I'm just terrible at thinking on my feet, but the graphics, music, writing, sheer variety, charm, and explorative nature all came together to create just a joyful experience overall. Olivia is also a precious ray of sunshine and I have so many more emotions associated with Bob-Ombs than I did previously.

As for the others, I'm always up for more Mystery Dungeon, I've never actually played the ZX games before, THQ SpongeBob games give me joy, and I heard a lot of good things about the last one and I LOVE me some 3D platformers, so it was finally time to see what all the fuss is about.

Spider-Man: Miles Morales Omnibus
Batman/Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles III

COMICS! Skipped out on my usual yearly dose of IDW TMNT volumes yet again (thinking about finally starting to catch up at Christmas) in favor of a HUGE Omnibus of the 2016 Miles Morales Spider-Man series which both brings him into the main 616 Marvel universe for the first time and finishes out his original writer, Brian Michael Bendis', run with him. (Before he jumped ship to DC to create some very controversial runs with established characters.) Best thing is that I already have the first volume of Saladin Ahmed's run digitally so I can immediately check his stuff out after I finish this and decide if I like it enough to keep up with it.

The Turts aren't fully left out, though, as the final chapter of the Batman/TMNT trilogy represents them with probably my favorite of these team-ups they've done. Seriously, if you check out ONE Batman/TMNT comic crossover, make it THIS one. Where else are you gonna get a tale where Krang takes control of the freaking Anti-Monitor to combine the Batman and TMNT multiverses together and Mirage Raphael from Turtle Prime has to venture into the combined world to convince the heroes that their entire world is a lie before Krang can make his move? Also the Joker (called the Laughing Man in the new world) is leader of a ninja crime empire called the "Smile Clan." God, I love comic books.

Sonic the Hedgehog (Blu-ray Combo)
Sonic the Hedgehog: Tangle & Whisper
Sonic the Hedgehog Volume 4: Infection
Sonic the Hedgehog Volume 5: Crisis City
Sonic the Hedgehog Volume 6: The Last Minute

I looooove that Hedgehog! Being that Sonic recently made the shift to headlining a film franchise (after a career of nothing but cameos in stuff like Ready Player One as well as his bit parts in the Wreck-It Ralph movies), of course I had to grab his new movie on Blu-ray. (It'll probably end up being the only movie I'll see in theaters all year at this rate.)

Continuing the Blue Blur train, we have more of the excellent IDW comics including both a buddy adventure dedicated to original comic characters Tangle and Whisper as well as the majority of the Metal Virus Saga storyline that's been running for a while. (Yes, the Sonic comics have a major story arc about a contagious pandemic that turns everyone into robot zombies. It's the very definition of "morbid coincidence.")

Banpresto DBZ Grandista Resolution of Soldiers Gotenks Figure
Bandai Spirits Mewtwo Model Kit
Funko Marvel Venomized Mystery Minis Blind Box (Captain Marvel)
Sailor Moon Blind Bag Magnet (Luna)

Finishing things off, we have the pile of stuff my Sis and brother-in-law got me courtesy of Hot Topic sales. Pretty nice collection of nerdy bric-a-brac, representing a variety of franchises I'm into. I got into DBZ through the Buu saga, so Gotenks here is a nice choice for my very first high-end DBZ collectible, I've been keeping up with Spider-Man: Maximum Venom on TV, so one of these Minis was a no-brainer (Kinda wish I had gotten Spidey, Deadpool, or Miles though), I hadn't built a model kit since the old Yu-Gi-Oh! ones that Mattel brought over back in the day, so Mewtwo was a fun little project (I want the Lugia one now), and Luna does an adorable job of guarding my manga shelf.

That about wraps it up! Next post shouldn't be until the Fall, but expect to see a couple of really neat comics as well as the odd figure and maybe even a Blu-ray in it when it arrives. I'll see ya then!
