August is tomorrow, and I've still got a few hauls to share before the next big post. So let's get down to business and clear those out, shall we?
Always interested in collecting merch for comic-exclusive characters and forms from my favorite TV and game franchises. However, when the Omega Rangers set was initially released, I passed on it. 100 bucks seemed pretty steep for a four-pack of figures that were largely identical in design besides paint and accessories. (There are only two unique body and head molds in this set: a male one and a female one.) However, when Hasbro Pulse marked it down to less than $50 including shipping, I KNEW that I couldn't pass it up.
They're awesome figures, too! No QC problems and they're perfect plastic representations of the initial Omega Rangers team from the Boom comics. VERY happy with them, especially considering the deal I got them for.
Didn't have physical copies of these particular stories from early on in IDW TMNT's run, so decided to shop around to see if I could find a good enough deal on the fancy hardcover deluxe editions. (Which were originally 40 bucks a piece. For ONE story. Yeah, that's why I waited to grab them.) Luckily, I was able to score BOTH used for less than the original price for ONE. Now I have everything from IDW TMNT pre-issue 100 in physical form minus the first Usagi crossover and the story from the 30th Anniversary Special! Not too shabby.
Been saving up for this one for a while! I've had the second Guardians on Blu-ray since 2017, but have oddly never owned the first. Decided to change that through DMI, but it took a bit of waiting. Y'see, I wanted a digital copy of the movie as well, and the only Blu-ray that DMI offered that included one was 2000 points. (That's why it's the fancy-pants Blu-ray 3D version despite the fact that I don't own a 3D TV.) After a loooooong point grind that was set back by an impulse redemption here and there, I FINALLY got enough points and redeemed it. Now Guardians V2 won't look as awkward on the shelf!
My parents found this for me while thrifting! I'd never seen it before, but it's super cool and covered with unique artwork based on the 2012 TMNT show! Perfect as a both a travel bag AND a place to keep my TMNT pins!
OMGcon arrived once again and I spent another fun weekend hanging out and watching Digimon with my sister. As for my purchases during said weekend, besides the lone Yu-Gi-Oh! ARC-V manga volume and the Trevenant sticker my sister got free with some candy, I mostly scored a bunch of model kits. Here's a rundown of my experiences with them:
The MegaMan kit was a NIGHTMARE to build. SO many tiny pieces, SO much finger injury, and to top it all off, I accidentally attached one piece to the wrong side of another, resulting in me accidentally breaking the first while trying to separate the two. Luckily for me, everything still came together fine enough (despite MegaMan's left leg not being secured to him properly due to the missing piece), so I could still display him on one of my shelves. Still, I don't think I'll be picking up any more of these particular kits.
The Keroro kits, however, came together MUCH more easily. The only issues I had were the weird design of Giroro's eye stickers causing them to get all crumpled up when I applied them, and accidentally securing Keroro's body before attaching his head peg, resulting in me spending like an hour trying to pull the body back apart. Fortunately for me, I was eventually successful (thanks in no small part to some assistance from some nail clippers) and didn't damage anything, unlike with MegaMan. No problems with Kululu, though. He was a fun one from start to finish.
Wrapping up OMGcon weekend, I had a bit of cash left over from my con funds, so I decided to use it to score an eShop card at Target (to put towards the new TMNT: Splintered Fate game) as well as a couple packs of Digimon cards. (Didn't get the greatest pulls, though, and that particular booster set didn't turn out to have much that interested me, so I kinda wish that I had gotten more eShop cash instead.)
OHHHHHHHHH MYYYYYYYYYY GODDDDDDDDDDDDDDDD these are AMAZING! When Mattel announced that we were getting a new line of Street Sharks figures for the 30th Anniversary that faithfully recreated the designs of the vintage figures, yet also updated their articulation to modern levels, I couldn't freaking believe it. BETTER versions of the always-expensive vintage Street Sharks for only 25 bucks a pop?! It was too good to be true! Needless to say, I pre-ordered the first wave ASAP and got them in recently. They DO NOT disappoint. The opening jaws? The action features? The rubbery shark skin? All there. They're EXACTLY like my old collection from back in the day, only they can pose around WAY more easily. They're SO fun to mess around with (especially Slash, who I've never actually owned before) and they even still come in little cages with that great vintage artwork and cut-out bios on the back! (Which I, of course, cut out, because I'm a dork.) I cannot BELIEVE that these really exist and I am IN for all future waves. (Which, judging by these photos from SDCC, I think I'm gonna need a bigger shelf for. MOBY LICK AND KILLAMARIIIIIIII!!!!)
Ness was the only fighter from the Smash 64 roster that I didn't have in amiibo form, so I immediately jumped on this reissue that Gamestop recently put out. Now the original 12 that started it all have finally assembled on my shelf!
Being the Wreck-It Ralph nut that I am, I, of course, had my eye on this ornament back when it originally released in 2018. However, I didn't pull the trigger on it back then, causing its aftermarket price to eventually balloon up to 60 FREAKING DOLLARS! I did NOT want to pay that much for a tree decoration, so I recently shopped around and found it on eBay for half that price minus the box. It's in great condition, too, so it was well worth it. Looking forward to adding some Ralph goodness to my little tree this holiday.
I picked up the original Superior Spider-Man Marvel Legends figure back in 2017, but I quickly realized that it was severely lacking. It was missing his tech gauntlets and mechanical spider legs that he used pretty frequently in the comics and was overall just kind of...off. As it turns out, that particular figure was based on concept art for the character rather than the actual comic stories, meaning that fans of that time that Otto Octavius took a stab at heroics would go on wanting for a definitive figure. That all changed this year.
This new figure is MUCH improved. He has his gauntlets, spider legs, and even an interchangeable backpack piece so you could display him with OR without said extra limbs. The only thing that I would add would be a swivel for his gauntlets so he could position them in front of him in dramatic fashion, but he's still a great addition to my Marvel/Spider shelf. (Though, I had to do a bit of repositioning to find a spot for him. With those legs attached, he's just ASKING to knock down other figures. Classic Doc Ock, I guess.)
Finishing things off, we have another of Baby's forms that got the POP! treatment recently. Now all I need is a jumbo POP! of the big gold monkey! C'mon, Funko, complete the Baby trifecta!
That's everything I picked up in the past couple months! See you in a couple days for the annual Birthday haul post!
